Social Networking

Social Networking is something that I am not really in favour of, propably because I did not know enough about it. Also I don't have the internet so have not seen a use for it. I do believe that it can do a lot of harm to people. This could be because it is not used properly.
It is assumed that most people have the internet. But, people my age especially do not have computers let alone the internet. I have a computer and have done for years but that doesn't say I know a lot about them.

I thought the British Library Facebook was good adn interesting for those able to look at.

The Rotorua Library Bepo was great and very informative as long as you have the internet.

Mashups

Mashups- yes Icould see where this would be a useful tool in the library, especially to make customers aware of certain new things happening in the library.

I could see an advantage of this to the business world as well.

Also to create your own cards etc.

Podcasts

Podcasts are very popular with the young people in the family.
I think podcasts could be useful in the lilbrary especially aimed at school age. For example, reading poetry is not a 'cool' thing to do but possibly being read to them by expressive readers woild be more interesting.

Answer Boards

After having to sign up for yahoo again (I hadn't used for quite awhile) I was able to have a look at Yahoo 7 and answered a question.
I found it quite interesting looking at the questions and some of the aswers. Had a bit of a laugh with some of them.
I will certaianly have another look and maybe ask a question sometime soon.

Tagging

Delicious was a bit of a problem. Getting a name and password it would accept was quite challenging. I tagged a url on delicious and delicious to my blog.
I don't quite know if this is the right way but it worked.

RSS Feeds

I have been battling with the RSS Feeds. Today I have managed to put a feed on my blog. I can see that this could be a useful tool once I have practiced it enough and find feed links thast have rss on the end. I shall continue to use this until I am confindent that I have mastered it really well.
when I really get into blogging I think I will be able to incorporate rss to my advantage in the local history room.
I chose ABC news for my rss feed today.

Having not had anything to do with Video on the internet I was quite facinated with it all, especially the one on Oral history. We have been thinking about doing some oral history talks with our older generation before all the information is lost. This video show me another way it could be done.

We could take them out and they can show where things were and we could video the experience for us and their family. We would not have to be as creative as in 'Olive's' video but I can see possibilities.

I found the Staff orientation had on the eyes flashing past in places. I think you would have to have someone professional to do this for a Library. Perhaps these two were doing for a school assignment or something. They still did better than I would though.

Google

I found Google book review better but as a learner I would have to really use it a lot to get the real differences. Clarity seemed to be a problem in some videos.

Week5 - Wikis

I have just complete my wikipedia exercise. I find it very interesting. I can see where 'wiki' could be of great help in a Library situation and in the Local History section there are possibilities of making use of it there too.
This is all new to me and I am finding ti hard to 'get my head' around some it. but I will keep trying. Week 5 part was great and I hope to be able to get the time to do the adventure.

I think this bridge has a problem. I clould imagine walking on - when it was right way up - such greenery all around.
